    Native to Mexico, Belize, and parts of Central America, the Mexican Musk Turtle is a fully aquatic species that’s known for its highly domed shell, strong build, and curious nature. While they share the “musk turtle” name with the common stinkpot, these are much more robust and grow a bit larger — with adults reaching up to 12 inches, but usually topping out around 8–10 inches in captivity.

    The species name, triporcatus, refers to the three keels (ridges) running down their carapace. It’s a signature look that gives them a prehistoric, armored appearance.
